The picture you see on a pin is almost never the biggest one Pinterest is holding. The site serves whatever size fits your screen — a phone gets a small file, a wide monitor gets a bigger one — which is why a pin saved from a laptop and the same pin saved from a phone can come out at completely different quality.

Pinterest keeps several sizes of the same photo
Behind one pin there are usually five or six copies of the same image at different widths, plus an original. Video pins do the same thing — what Pinterest actually stores behind a pin walks through the whole drawer. The card here reads all of them, checks their real file sizes, and offers you the distinct ones.
That check matters more than it sounds. On one recipe pin the "original" file is a 0.03 MB WebP while a plainly larger 0.04 MB JPEG sits alongside it — so trusting the label instead of the file would hand you the smaller picture and call it full size. The card sorts by what the files actually weigh.
Which size do you want
- Full size for printing, for a moodboard you will zoom into, or for anything going near a design tool.
- Medium for sending to someone, or for reference on a phone.
- Light when you just want the thumbnail as a memory jog.
If two of Pinterest's copies turn out to be identical, only one appears. A choice between two files of exactly the same size is not a choice.
Format
You get whatever Pinterest stored — usually JPEG, sometimes PNG, occasionally WebP. The file extension on the download matches the real format rather than a guess, so nothing arrives named .jpg while actually being something else.
Frequently asked
Can I make the image bigger than the original? No, and be wary of any site that says it can. The largest file here is the largest file Pinterest has.
What about the pin's description or the link it points to? Not saved. This tool takes the picture, not the page around it.
The pin I want is a video, not a photo. Same box, same lookup — the card will say so and offer the video sizes. The Pinterest video downloader page explains what those sizes mean.
Can I download every image on a board at once? Not yet. One pin at a time.
